Coming at you from every angle
It's been a minute. OK, it's been lots of minutes.
In putting together my team's operating plan for 2020 (damn, I'm old), it is apparent how much art there is in attacking sourcing issues. When the spotlight is on and you need to save cash, the amount of creativity involved is enormous. There are those that believe sourcing is just finding savings for repetitive buys through a 7-step, RFP-focused process. Sometimes that works. Sometimes, there is much more.
In looking at the plan, it includes:

In looking at the plan, it includes:
- A bunch of plain, ol' RFPs, driving down service rates and construction costs
- Extensions of existing contracts with long-term rate reductions
- Negotiated discounts with incumbents as incentive to drive wallet share
- New technologies to reduce labor, consumable usage and process waste
- A focus on international product where, to date, there has been none
Our ability to save was doubted. We will now overwhelm.
